AAAI Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva Macedonian/British artist Elpida Hadza-Vasileva creates sculputre that explores the human relationship with nature. She is interested in working in forms and materials outside of those usually used by sculptors and uses materials such as butter and fish skins to explore ideas of form and space, memory and the concealed. Some of her more recent exhibitions have been at Fabrica Gallery in Brighton and the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Skopje, Macedonia. She was shortlisted for the Jerwood Sculpture Prize in 2001, exhibiting her shortlisted proposal at the Jerwood Space in London. Elpida's work in the New Forest included 'Ambush' in the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive in 2000 and her residency at ArtSway. She is currently working on a site specific project in Bristol and has recently established a studio in Brighton. Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva was artist-in-residence during summer 1999 as part of ArtSway's "The World of Our Landscape" A4E programme funded by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England. The exhibition at ArtSway, 'Who Am I?' (which included Butter Wall) was made up of new work specifically created for each of ArtSway's gallery spaces.
