Regular Workshops for Children

ArtSway offers a range of educational activities such as weekly After School Art Clubs, as well as a variety of one-off workshops designed for children from 1 to 11 years old. All art clubs and workshops are artist-led and often relate to themes and ideas in our exhibition programme. For details of how to book, see the bottom of this page.

Holiday Workshops for Children NEW FOR 2008

After School Art Clubs
After School Art Clubs take place three times a week during school term times, offering children an hour-and-a-half of fun and creativity led by local artists.

Sessions are offered on:

AUTUMN 2008

Tuesdays for 5 – 7 year olds (with Marcia Hull)

DATES:  September 9, 16, 23, 30/October 7, 14, 21/November 4, 11, 18, 25/December 2, 9, 16

Wednesdays for 7 – 11 year olds (with Laura Joy)
DATES:  September 10, 17, 24/October 1, 8, 15/November 5, 12, 19, 26/December 3, 10, 17

Thursdays for 5 – 7 year olds (with Mia Khalaf)

DATES:  September 11, 18, 25/October 2, 9, 16, 23/November 6, 13, 20, 27/December 4, 11, 18

COST: £6 per workshop, payable in two half-term instalments of £42. We recommend you pay on or before 11 September and then on or before 6 November. This will guarantee your child a place in the club.

Saturday Morning Art Club
ArtSway also offers a Saturday Morning Art Club for 6 – 11 year olds. It runs every Saturday during term time from 10am – 12pm and is led by Sway based artist Marcia Hull.
COST: £7 per workshop, or £42 payable half termly.

Pre-school Picassos
Saturdays, 10.30am – 11.30am

Workshops every fortnight introducing art to pre-school 3 - 5 year olds. All children must be accompanied by their parents, grandparents or carers. With local artist Lesley Green.
COST: £4 per child. Booking essential - please telephone the gallery for confirmation of dates.

Dinky da Vincis
Tuesdays, 10am – 11am
Creative, arty and above all fun workshops for the little ones, ages 1 - 3 years old, with their parents, grandparents or carers. With Southampton based artist Liz White.
COST: £3.50 per child. Booking essential.

Holiday Workshops for 6 - 11 year olds
All holiday workshops cost £22 per workshop per child. Please bring a packed lunch (nut free) and a change of clothing.

What's Hiding in My Beach Hut!?

Wednesday 30 July, 10.30am – 3.30pm

A fantastic chance to celebrate the summer and get messy with lolly sticks, glue and cardboard! Come and have fun making mini beach huts complete with their very own sandy beach! With Emily Stracey.

Super-Size My Passport

Wednesday 6 August, 10.30am – 3.30pm

Super-Size My Passport is a very special workshop for children linked to the exhibition Just world order. Spend the day creating your very own fun and wacky giant passport using techniques such as painting, photography, printmaking and collage. With Joel Papps.

Eco Beach Jewellery

Wednesday 13 August, 10.30am – 3.30pm

With the summer in full swing, this is a chance to make your own unique eco-friendly beach jewellery! Spend the day using vintage and recycled materials, with artist Rachel Larkins.

Construct Your Own Olympic Stadium!

Thursday 14 August, 10.30am – 3.30pm

An amazing opportunity to celebrate the Beijing Olympics by recycling old shoe boxes into Olympic stadiums! Choose from a massive range of materials to design and construct your very own Olympic site! With Sara Slater.

Olympics Competition
'British Olympic Success'

Design your very own Olympic poster. Entrants must be 12 years or under. Poster must be A4 size made in 2D. Winning work will be displayed in Sway village.

Criteria: The winner capture in portraiture a successful British Olympian and his/hers skills.

Let’s Have Fun Cartooning!

Wednesday 20 August, 10.30am - 3.30pm

A whole day full of fun drawing funny pictures to make your friends laugh! You don’t need to be an expert artist, just enjoy drawing funny pictures. Learn new skills that will make your simple cartoons come to life, making your very own characters laugh, frown and walk in funny ways! With Gillian Jeffery.
