Current Exhibition Hannah Maybank 19 April - 15 June 2008 ArtSway presents an exhibition of new work by the painter Hannah Maybank. Gallery Talk: Hannah Maybank in conversation with Peter Bonnell Saturday 3 May 2008, 3pm Hannah Maybank will discuss with Peter Bonnell, ArtSway’s Curator, the themes and inspirations behind her new series of paintings and ink drawings. The talk will take place in ArtSway’s galleries, and will also touch upon her recent ArtSway residency, and future plans. FREE, booking essential. Gallery Talk: Introduction to Contemporary Landscape Monday 2 June 2008, 7pm - 9pm To coincide with Hannah Maybank's exhibition, ArtSway is running an Introduction to Contemporary Landscape gallery talk. The evening aims to offer an insight into the history of contemporary landscape and its place in the artworld today. The talk will take place in ArtSway's galleries with Hannah Maybank's work playing a fitting backdrop. FREE, booking essential. New Artist In Residence Dinu Li ArtSway's new artist in residence starts at the gallery this week. Dinu Li is a filmmaker, photographer and video artist and will be making a new work focusing on the cultural interchanges and social development of Southern England and South East China. His project investigates a recent trend by Chinese city planners to develop housing complexes based on traditional English coutryside villages. Dinu begins his residency in May until July and will return to the gallery for his solo show in September. For more information on Dinu Li please see our Future Exhibitions page. Let's Get Recycling Competition ArtSway is suporting the Let's Get Recycling competition, a campaign to promote the importance of recycling. Pupils of varying age catagories are asked to come up with a poster to highlight what can be recycled in the New Forest, and the benefits to their community and environment. Future Exhibitions
20 June - 6 July 2008 Multichannel is a screening programme organised by ArtSway and SCAN, and will take place in ArtSway's galleries from 20 June - 6 July 2008. Building on the success of Multichannel 2007, this is a curated programme of single-video works by artists and practitioners focusing on the theme of video in film or as narrative. The Millais Gallery in Southampton will be hosting a retrospective of Multichannel 2007 in its galleries from the 19 April - 31 May 2008. For more information please click here |

12 July - 7 September 2008 Just world order is a curated group exhibition, originated by ArtSway, which will explore themes converging around identity and anxiety as we experience them in today’s society. The indistinct unease many of us feel living in the current climate of terrorist alerts and financial turbulence will act as a backdrop to a range of newly commissioned works that will examine how we relate to the world around us, and how we perceive our own individual place in that world. The exhibition will feature the works of 8 UK based international artists: Dunhill & O'Brien (sculptural installations); Rachel Garfield (single channel video work); Charlotte Ginsborg (single channel video work); Jane Grant (sound and video installation); Ansel Krut (painting); Kim Noble (performance and installation) and Tim Simmons (photography).For more information on Just world order please see our Future Exhibitions page. |
ArtSway Connect ArtSway Connect is ArtSway's artist development programme, which we plan to develop further throughout 2008. Watch this space! Portfolio Advice Day Friday 23 May 2008, 10am - 4.30pm Ten half-hour slots for artists from all backgrounds for critiques, portfolio reviews and career advice with ArtSway Director Mark Segal and Curator Peter Bonnell. Workshops Life Drawing Our Adult Life Drawing classes begin a new Summer term in April, dates are as follows:
Thursday April 24 / May 8, 22 / June 5, 19 / July 3 between 7pm and 9pm. We also have an exciting one-day workshop for children running in May. 3D Family Trees! Wednesday 28 May 2008, 10.30am - 3.30pm. For 6 - 11 year olds. Taking the fantastic ink drawings of trees by Hannah Maybank as a starting point, come along and create your own 3D Family Tree using collage and printmaking techniques. Bring along family photographs as inspiration, and with your own drawings make a tree that explores your family history! With Bournemouth based artist Rachel Larkins. COST: £22 for the day (includes all materials) In addition, June sees a special four-week course for adults. Book now, places going fast! Clay Modelling: 'Out of the Earth' Course Dates: Mondays 9, 16, 23 & 30 June 2008, 7pm - 9pm. A four-week clay-modelling course for adults focusing on the theme 'Out of the Earth'. Come and explore the otential of sculpting and modelling in clay, and experience the calming pleasures of working with that most tactile and primal of resources: clay. With local ArtSway artist Jackie Giron.
