ArtSway Xtra Coach Trip to Brighton Installations and Aspex in Portsmouth

Saturday 18 August 2007
10am - 7pm

Join ArtSway Xtra as we visit three installations in Brighton during different stages of construction and destruction.

We will first visit the Edible Construction Company, who are rebuilding the Brighton Pavilion from 10 tonnes of rice.  Former ArtSway residency artist Emilia Telese is part of the project, and invites you to come and see the rice pavilion and hear her talk about the project.  The rice will be given to hungry children with Feed the Children UK when the project is finished.

We will then be visiting Permanent Gallery, which is run by ArtSway Open05 winner Laura Mousavi Zadeh.  The curator of the current exhbition there, Ebb & Flow, by Fiona Carabine, will give us a talk about that installation and the gallery.  We will also visit Fabrica, to see the theatrical deconstruction of La Route Blanche, an installation from Dominique De Beir, who has created light constellations by punching holes in structures made of cardboard and fruit crates.

Lastly we will stop off at Aspex in Portsmouth to see the exhibiton there from Roger Palmer, who was born in Portsmouth, and has installed architectural models, photgraphs and other installations.  A great chance to see Aspex's wonderful new home in the Vulcan Building at Gunwharf Quays.

£10 for the day, Free to Friends of ArtSway.  Call 01590 682260 to book a place, or email laura@artsway.org.uk

The Time Surgeon

6 October - 25 November 2007

ArtSway is excited to announce a new installation from Nathaniel Mellors, who was ArtSway artist in residence during Spring 2007.  The Time Surgeon is a co-commission between ArtSway and the Biennale de Lyon (www.biennale-de-lyon.org)

Nathaniel Mellors' ad-hoc sculpture, psychedelic theatre and absurdist, satirical film target the question of who controls language.  In Mellors' new film 'The Time Surgeon', inflicts physical torture upon a disembodied voice trapped inside a tape machine to induce time travel.

In partnership with the Arts Institute at
Bournemouth's text + work programme, who have funded a full-colour publication to accompany the event.  B.OK features new critical texts from David Evans, Jennifer Higgie and Martin Herbert.

We hope to see you in the gallery soon.
