Artist News:

Artist in Residence

Current artist in residence, Hannah Maybank, is working hard towards her April 2008 show. Hannah is now more than halfway through her ArtSway residency and her work is looking great!

For those who are not familiar with Hannah's work, recurring motifs of trees, mountains and clouds are used to create pieces that both relax the eye and intrigue with detail.

Hannah was born in Stafford in 1974 and is a graduate of the Royal College of Art. She has had a number of successful exhibitions across the UK, most recently at the Royal Academy Summer Show this year.

More information about Hannah and a range of examples of her work can be found at www.gimpelfils.com

Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva

Eplida is about to complete her residency at the Galerie Ateliers L'H Du Siege in Valenciennes, France. Some people may remember her Butter Wall here at ArtSway in 2000. She is now planning a work using Tripe, which is challenging the French organisers of her show!

The exhibition is scheduled for early next year (12 January - 24 February 2008). More information here: www.hdusiege.org and here: www.elpihv.co.uk

ArtSway Director, Mark Segal, has written a text for Elpida's upcoming exhibition which will be published in the accompanying publication. Keep an eye on Elpida's website for futher details of this event.

Art Fund International

ArtSway is very pleased to be part of the successful partnership, led by Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, which will be spending £1 million pounds on a new international art collection over the next five years.  The Art Fund is funding five successful Art Fund International partnerships.

Art Fund International is one of the most important and ambitious schemes The Art Fund has ever launched. The scheme will fund the creation of collections of international contemporary art over the next five years, whilst encouraging a radical change in the scale and ambition of contemporary art collecting in the UK.

See the Art Fund website for more information here

Other News

We are really excited that Gayle Chong Kwan has just confirmed an ACE funded touring exhibition with ArtSway (along with mac, Birmingham; Adventure Ecology, London and Cittadellarte, Fondazione Pistoletto, Italy) for early 2009.  Gayle's practice features elements of photography, video, installation and performance in a way that enables the audience to physically engage with the work and take upon themselves the undergo a 'unique experience'.

Gayle is a really exciting artist and more on her work can be found here: www.axisweb.org/artist/gaylechongkwan
