Rik PinkcombeÕs photographs explore the notion that the media saturated culture in which we currently live distorts our vision of the world that surounds us and affects our personal identities. His mixed-race background influences his work as he visually questions and considers who we are, how we perceive others and how we, in turn, are perceived. It is the consequences of these perceptions, along with the concept of not belonging to one side or to the other, and the difficulty of being classified as a type that motivated Pinkcombe to produce BorderLine. BorderLine is an exhibition of new work, commissioned by ArtSway and Autograph ABP, that investigates the border between the US and Mexico. This work both develops and compliments PinkcombeÕs previous work which examined the border between the US and Canada. Rik Pinkcombe lives and works in London.
