ArtSway Associates Programme
ArtSway is pleased to announce the launch of the ArtSway Associates programme offering selected artists training, support and advice over the next three years. Complementing ArtSway’s exhibition residency and commissioning programme, ArtSway Associates aims to provide legacy support for a selection of artists who have previously undertaken residencies at ArtSway. ArtSway Associates is ArtSway's continuing professional development programme for ten artists who have previously undertaken an ArtSway residency. The programme offers critical support, advocacy, training and seed funding for creative activity over three years. ArtSway Associates is financially supported by The Leverhulme Trust and Arts Council England. Audiences and arts professionals can access information about the ArtSway Associates through ArtSway Xtra, ArtSway’s regular email newsletter (send an email to artswayxtra-join@artsway.org.uk). The third ArtSway Associates meeting took place in November, and was led by Nicholas Sharp, an arts specialist lawyer in London. This session was the second in a series of training sessions on contracts development and is being used to develop the ArtSway Associates' contracts. ArtSway Director, Mark Segal, has been meeting with the ArtSway Associates on a one-on-one to finalise the agreements. The programme has been fast developing, with funding going towards website training and development, publications, marketing, critical input, and support and advice from ArtSway Director, Mark Segal, on funding applications and proposals. In addition to the support offered by ArtSway, a few of the artists are also receiving mentoring from other arts professionals. For instance, Simon Faithfull is discussing his practice with Andrew Wheatley, Co-Director, Cabinet Gallery, while Emilia Telese has undertaken the first of a series of meetings with Robin Klassnik, Director, Matt's Gallery. |

Alistair Gentry |
Following support from the ArtSway Associates programme, Alistair was awarded an Arts Council England Grants for Arts earlier this year for his new live video / live performance project 'Magickal Realism'. You can view a preview of some of the animation, as well as keep up with the project's progression and Alistair's findings by clicking here. boredomresearch |
ArtSway Associates worked with boredomresearch to develop a Real Snail Mail™ brochure, used to bring attention to the project, and have been in discussion about Intellectual Property. The one-day legal workshop for the ArtSway Associates artists, which took place in May, clarified some outstanding questions, and the ArtSway Associates scheme will organise a one-to-one session specifically for boredomresearch. Currently, they are working on new work to be presented at ARCO international Art Fair Festival, in Madrid. ArtSway Associates will be working with boredomresearch later on in the year in commissioning a critical text for a virtual catalogue, and will support the marketing of the artists' presence at ARCO 2010, and have contributed towards the production costs of Real Snail Mail for its presence at Laboral. Simon Faithfull |
Simon Faithfull's drawings, made during the course of Liverpool to Liverpool - a journey by container ship from Liverpool, UK to Liverpool, Canada - are soon to be etched into the stone paving of a new public space in Liverpool. This first major public art commission will be unveiled outside Liverpool Lime Street Station in April 2010. Simon was recently located at the Mobile Research Station no.1 in Berlin: the half hi-tech Antarctic Research Station / half rusty-broken-dumpster was being used by a group of eccentric researchers as the basis of a research station. But, rather than researching the frozen wastes of Antarctica or the moons of Saturn, the invited artist/researchers began their research into the wilderness and urban zones of uncertainty that still lie at the centre of Berlin... You can find out more information on the Mobile Research Station no.1, and view a selection of images by visiting the following: Mobile Research Station No.1 blog Mobile Research Station No.1 Photographs
