Previous Residencies

Recent residencies have included Alex Frost and Hannah Maybank.


Three residency/commissions were planned for 2006 - 2007.

Each was selected through a different process, reflecting current methodologies for the identification and recruitment of artists for professional opportunities.



Rik Pinkcombe (selected in partnership with Autograph ABP) is currently developed new work for exhibition in April-May 2007. He developed his series of photographic works investigating borders in North America. Rik was recently in residence at Light Work, Syracuse, New York and also exhibited there (www.lightwork.org).


Beate Gütschow was been selected in partnership with the Goethe-Institut, following nominations from Curators and Artists based in Germany. Beate undertook her residency in August/September 2006 with an exhibition of her work early in 2007.

Nathaniel Mellorswas selected following an open submission process in partnership with the Arts Institute at Bournemouth. Nathaniel undertook a residency in 2007, with an exhibition of his work in October 2007. See Previous Exhibitions


Ma Yongfeng. The Chinese Arts Centre in Manchester and ArtSway have come together to collaborate on a five-month long Production residency scheme aimed at an artist of Chinese decent. The aim of Production was to offer a selected artist the time and space to develop their practice with critical and curatorial support. See Previous Exhibitions



ACE Artist International Fellowship. In late 2006 ArtSway was selected to host an Artist International Fellowship supported by Arts Council England. ArtSway worked in collaboration with the Armenian Centre for Experimental Contemporary Art to select an Armenian artist to undertake a three month research residency at ArtSway. The selected artist received critical support from the London University of the Arts through Stephen Farthing, Research Professor In Drawing, London University of the Arts (Chelsea School of Art).

Diana Hagopian was selected to undertake this Arts Council England International Fellowship at ArtSway. Selected in partnership with the Armenian Centre for Contemporary Experimental Arts in Yeravan, Diana was in residence at ArtSway for three months, developing a series of new paintings and video works, in the winter of 2006.
